Summer Cleaning & Organization
I love showing homes!! Especially when I get to show homes that are clean and organized. This week, I wanted to share some fun cleaning/organization hacks. These tips will keep your home fresh and clean during the hot summer months. You can even implement some all year-round!
1. Trash- clean and disinfect the main in-home trashcan once a month with your choice of anti-bacterial cleaner. After, take a cotton ball soaked with your favorite essential oil (if you have some) and stick it at the bottom of the can. If not, how about a dryer sheet? They work just as good & will keep your trash fresh inside.
2. Ceiling Fans- Dust your fan blades using an old pillowcase. Simply soak inside the pillowcase with your favorite dust cleaner & slip it over the blades. All dust & dirt will fall into the pillowcase rather than around the room.
3. Kitchen Cabinets- Besides your cell phone, this is probably the most touched surface in your home. It’s also not one of the places you think to clean frequently. Mix warm water & murphy’s oil soap, wipe all fronts, even hardware.
4. Shower- I don’t know about you but cleaning the shower while you’re in it is the only way to clean the shower. Your favorite bathroom cleaner and a rag will do the trick.
5. Window Treatments- Summer is the perfect time to take all window coverings down to clean. I usually dust the blinds, remove drapes and wash, then put everything up just after cleaning the inside window frames and windowsill.
Summer is also a great time to organize rooms throughout the house, especially while the kids are home for some extra hands. You can start by creating a July calendar and add one small task 3 days a week and 1 big task on the weekend. Here are some ideas that will help you get your home in tip-top organized shape.
1. Clean out & stock up on summer & back to school essentials- new beach/pool towels, sunscreen, bug spray, first aid supplies, hand sanitizer, you get the idea.
2. Bathroom drawers & linen closets- unpack & clean all areas, check for expired products, refresh towels, and make a list of necessary bathroom restocks
3. Kitchen drawers & cabinets- Purchase one of the pots & pan organizers, and clean out all drawers, including that one “catch-all” drawer.
4. Adult/Kids Closets- things like to accumulate and they can easily look and feel messy. Re-organize by color or clothing piece, donate unwanted items, roll jeans/pants, PJ’s, and lose clothing.
5. Tidy up Garage- It’s still part of the house! Re-organize bins and random tools, toys, and gym equipment.
Until next time…..
